Every time the machine is turned on for self-test, the seven-segment display shows 8 which is the default sensitivity benchmark of the machine.

When radio waves are detected, the machine will light up from green light à yellow light à red light according to the strength of the radio wave. The stronger the radio wave, the more lights will be on.
